Biography
Joseph Andrew Lake (b. 1979, San Francisco, California) received a B.A.,
Magna cum laude, in Music and Classics from Harvard University (2002), an M.F.A. in Experimental Sound Practices from the California Institute of the Arts (2004), and a PhD from the University at Buffalo in the composition studio of David Felder. In 2013 he completed a Meisterschüler in Composition with Mark Andre at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden with support of a Fulbright Scholarship (2011—2012) and DAAD Stipendium (2012—2013).
He has participitated in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Composer Institute, Schloss Solitude Summer Academy, Acanthes Atelier de Compositions, June in Buffalo Festival, Donaueschingen "Off-Programm", Dogstar Orchestra Festival, Center for Experiments in Art, Information, and Technology (CEAIT) Festival, and StallArte Festival. His music has been played by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Dresdner Philharmonie, Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble musikFabrik, Kammerphilharmonie Hamburg, Ensemble SurPlus, JACK Quartet, Norrbotten NEO, New York New Music Ensemble, Ensemble L'Autre Monde, Cikada Ensemble, New Century Players, among others.
Joseph Andrew Lake currently lives on the the island of Gotland in Sweden with his wife and two little children. He teaches harmony and ear training at the Gotland Tonsättarskola.
